These artichokes come in two 33oz glass jars. In each jar there are 21 servings and a serving here is 2 pieces. You may think this is small, but artichokes are dense and Costco does not skimp on size.

There are many different kinds of marinated artichokes on the market. Many of them can be expensive, or include unhealthy ingredients. What we like about Costco artichokes is their pricing and small ingredient list. They price this very generously and you get way more servings in these jars in comparison to other brands.

A look at Costco Artichokes Ingredients

  • Trimmed artichoke hearts (quarters & halves), water, canola oil, distilled vinegar, salt, garlic, spices, citric acid and ascorbic acid.

What we like here is the absence of highly processed ingredients and ingredients you cannot pronounce. There may be a few on here that you’re unaware of. Let’s break some down.

  • Citric Acid: Citric acid has been widely used to enhance flavor and preserve our foods for more than 100 years. It’s nothing new, but it can come from an interesting place. Many times this acid comes from citrus fruits. Other times, it can come from a type of black mold… Yes, black mold. We thought this was crazy too and unfortunately you’ll usually never know where your citric acid comes from.
  • Ascorbic Acid: This is Vitamin C. You’ll see ascorbic acid in a wide array of food you buy at the store.
  • Canola Oil: Canola oil has been taking a lot of heat in the health world over the past few years. This oil is high in Omega 6 fats, which can be detrimental to your health in large amounts. Also, the process of making canola oil is highly processed. This includes bleaching and deodorizing the oil. There are not enough studies to deem this oil unsafe. So, it’s up to consumers to decide if this ingredient is safe.

Overall, this is one of the best marinated artichoke brands you can buy on the market. The size and ingredient list is very impressive. If you do not approve of canola oil though, you should find another brand. So, should you buy this product? In our eyes it’s not so bad, but if you can find one with a more trustworthy oil, that could be a better route.
